Spanish Bay Reef Resort

Reviewers Rating: Great
Wife and I just back from four nights at Spanish Bay Reef.. Our first trip to Grand Cayman and Spanish Bay. The standard room was clean and comfortable. Staff friendly and accommodating. Food and alcohol included. Buffet style always but a large variety and quite good. Dinner had soup, salad, a carved meat, fish, vegetables, potatoes, desert. Made to order eggs for breakfast, along with French toast, muffins, fresh fruit etc. Lunch was usually a grilled meat or fish, with salad and potatoes. About the only negative is the beach. There is a lot of coral and virtually no sand. This makes for very poor swimming. A protected area is provided for scuba/snorkeling. No need to fret, as seven mile beach is minutes away and is sandy and calm. We ate lunch out one day just south of Georgetown, $50.00 U.S. including tip and three drinks. So you can see how the all inclusive saves $$$$. As far as money access goes, I did not exchange U.S. to Cayman and saw no need to. Every merchant or restaurant not only accepted U.S. but did the conversion for you. $1.00 U.S. = $1.25 Cayman. MAC machines somewhat limited, but available in Georgetown and strip malls. Credit cards widely accepted. Dont miss stingray city. Take the morning trip on a smaller boat, trust me. Pass on the turtle farm unless you have small children. Hell is very close to the hotel. Nothing much there but I suppose if you need to get your postmark from Hell stop by. Liquor is a good buy, you can get it in the duty free shops at the airport before you depart. Same prices as elsewhere on the island. Good selection too.
