The Cayman Islands Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews
Morritts Tortuga Beach Club 03/02/2003
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
Just returned from two weeks at Morritts -- what a wonderful experience!
This is a great resort! We've never had such relaxing vacation. The East End us definitely the place to be. We did venture over to Seven Mile Beach on non-cruise ship days. What a difference in atmosphere! Seven Mile Beach is exactly what we came on vacation to get away from -- the crowds, traffic, etc.
We were placed in Morritts Tortuga Beach Club, and our condo was very nice. My only complaint would have been that to my mind a "fully equipped" kitchen comes with a dishwasher. I don't do dishes at home and didn't like doing them while on vacation.
Morritts definitely has the right idea with its expansion into Morritts Grand. Phase One was completed and was very impressive. Phase Two was being completed -- and Phase Three has yet to be started. What a complex it will eventually be! We spent a great deal of time lounging by the recently completed Grand pool. It was the perfect place to enjoy both the pool and still have a wonderful view of the ocean. To be competitive somewhere down the line, I'd think Morritts will have to upgrade the Tortuga Club once it has completed the Grand.
The setting of Morritts is beautiful! The housekeepers and groundskeepers do a wonderful job! Our condo was kept up immaculately. We were impressed with the daily dressing of the beach area also -- all seaweed was raked up and hauled away and all lounge chairs re-arranged neatly before most guests had even gotten up to start their day. The laundry room was one of the cleanest I've ever seen -- and air conditioned!
The staff was so friendly -- the housekeepers and groundskeepers were so accommodating! The bartenders were great! Our assigned host, Marco, was really wonderful also. He did his best to make sure we did the things we were most interested in. Strangely, -- the front desk workers and gift shop staff appeared to be the least friendly and outgoing.
We attended several of the entertainment nights -- what fun! Andrew Bacon is definitely an asset and seemed to have as much fun as the guests while he was directing the entertainment.
We ate at David's, the on-site restaurant, and thought the food was good although a little pricey just like most everything else on the island.
We'd definitely recommend Morritts to anyone visiting Grand Cayman -- especially if you want a great place to relax. A car rental is a "must" though, especially if you want to get out and explore the island which everyone encourages visitors to do. Also, be prepared for the excessive prices throughout the island! We cooked in several times a week, and it helped cut our total expenses a lot!
