Tryp Peninsula Varadero 09/03/02
Reviewers Rating: Great
Just returned from a week, Aug.24-31, at the Melia Tryp Peninsula in Varadero Cuba with my girlfriend. This was my sixth visit to Varadero and 4th hotel in this touristic region. The hotel is huge. Be ready to walk. The hotel grounds are very nice with lots of vegetation and are very well kept. The hotel in itself is made up of 550 rooms located in 2 to 3 storey bungalows. The hotel is very nice and the rooms were very nice, clean and spacious. The shower was linking and they fixed it right away. Service is very good and tipping always makes it better; trust me. They appreciate the tip as they make very little and work very long hours. The beach is beautiful and the water a crystal green-blue just like anywhere else in Varadero. The view of this water is breathtaking which is why i've returned so many times to Varadero. The beach is not very large but i heard they want to make it better however you can walk for miles. No jelly fish while i was there. The pool was also nice with its swim up bar however we spent the entire day at the beach. Now the food. Having been to Cuba six times I can assure you that i wasn't expecting much in terms of food and i was right. If food is a very important aspect of your trip then do not go to Cuba. I was hoping that this hotel, being rated close to a 5 star, would surprise me with a variety and quality of food however i was very disappointed. There is one buffet and 2 a la carte restaurants. The buffet is always the same with hard meet and always the same kind of fish so i sticked with the pasta which was cooked in front of me. You need to make reservations for the 2 a la carte restaurants and they were not worth it. If you are looking for a nice hotel and clean hotel with a beautiful beach and beautiful water then i highly recommend it however if food is very important you might want to try the Beaches Varadero, Paradisus or the new Sandals which is opening later this month. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email me. Regards. Roger
