Tryp Cayo Coco 11/15/01
Reviewers Rating: Great
Just returned (01 04 13) from Tryp Cayo Coco. Thoroughly enjoy my stay. Resort offers newer club and older colonial style accommodations. I stayed in club side - rooms very spacious (king size beds), ocean view with balcony, rooms clean. (Hint: bring your own facecloths - only towels and face towels provided.) Tried out all a la carte restaurants and would recommend the Carribean (Caribeno), the Italian (La Fontella) and Seafood (El Dorado). Pick your own wines, i.e. specify a chardonnay, etc. rather than the house.... it had a bit of a bite. Also, you must reserve a day in advance (usually between 5-6 pm), you cannot get in on the same day (even though the restaurant may only be half full). During the day, lunch at the beach front snack bar "Hemingway" is less busy than the Grill "La Barcaza". Did not find the food spicy enough for my tastes, and had to get used to lack of salad dressing (you get offered oil and vinegar to mix your own). The grill "El Yarey" ! offers great personal, thin crust pizzas. The beach is fantastic, best snorkelling is around late afternoon when tide is out. At north end of resort there is a private bar, grill and horse rental. Would highly recommend you try the lobster & shrimp grill offered for $10 US - it was even better than what was offered in the a la carte restaurants. Tended to head for the pools at the end of the day..... many to choose from, found all clean. Beach towels are available from 0900 til around 1600 (trade in each day for new ones) and must be returned and verified before you check out. The buffet offered a wide selection of foods, (breads, cheeses, fruits, pastas, a little heavy on fried foods). Coffee was strong, tea was weak (strong tea lovers might want to bring there own along.) Husband went tarpon and baracuda fishing and had a ball. Also went on a snorkelling trip to an island north of Cayo Coco, this was great also. Overall had a wonderful time . One thing to remember, things run on Cuban time....which means 15 to 30 minutes after what ever time you have booked (just relax and enjoy). (Review originally submitted on April 15, 2001)
